In grad school I needed a specialized vacuum chamber and nothing within our price range was suitable, so I machined my own. This was one of my more difficult machining jobs — it’s difficult to avoid leaks which would render the chamber useless!
The chamber performs well and easily reaches sub-microtorr.
I built a variety of experiments to put inside it. One of these is shown beside the chamber in one of the images — it’s an accelerometer calibration shaker.
