I’ve done a variety of thermo-optical simulations for various purposes. This one models the phase efficiency of a resistive heater near an optical waveguide. It calculates heat propagation through a series of layers (left image), and calculates its effect on the effective index of the optical waveguide mode (right), and then goes on to calculate an overlap integral of the optical mode with one of the layers.
