Experimental test setups

Here are a couple of test setups from grad school I built. The first one uses a hydrogen torch to heat and pull an optical fiber (like taffy) until it reaches a precise final diameter. I had to build a thick lucite enclosure around it toto stymie air currents that would make the process otherwise unrepeatable.
This pulled fiber is then used as an optical probe in the vacuum chamber on the right. You can see the device under test on the computer screen in top left (though in this particular photo the device is being probed using a fiber array rather than the pulled fiber).
